Noble County was officially organized on March 1, 1836. The county was named after Noah Noble, Indiana’s fifth governor, who served from 1831 to 1837. The population of the county was 2,702 in 1840 and had grown to 46,275 by 2000. The county covers about twenty-four miles from east to west and about twenty miles from north to south.
