Community Development

Public Facilities Program

The Public Facilities Program supports community development by improving facilities and shared spaces for residents. Community facilities such as libraries, museums, community centers, performance spaces are crucial to economic development and growth. Many types of facilities are eligible for funding from the OCRA program.

General types of activities that are eligible for PFP funding include:

  • Removal of architectural barriers for ADA accessibility
  • Community centers
  • Daycare centers
  • Facilities for special needs groups
  • Fire/EMS stations
  • Healthcare centers
  • Historic preservation
  • Learning centers
  • Libraries
  • Senior centers
  • Youth center

Qualified non-profit organizations and community centers are eligible for funding to create or otherwise improve commercial building spaces. Improvements can include rehabilitating a facility or adding on to it in order to meet the needs of that community. We help coordinate community funding efforts by offering resources, evaluating potential economic benefit, grant application writing and submission. We also administer the funding if the application is approved and coordinate project completion.

Projects

Andrews Library

Region 3A assisted in the expansion and renovation project for the library in Andrews. The project received a $260,000 grant which we administered to complete the renovation of the property. The grant funding allowed for an expansion which doubled the square footage, improved accessibility (ADA), and added meeting space.

Experience

Region 3A has achieved $2,274,227.45 in grant funding for Public Facilities Program projects since 2000.
