Community Crossing Application Preparation

The Community Crossings Matching Grant Program was started in 2016 when the Indiana General Assembly passed legislation resulting in the creation of a program to help areas improve their roads and bridges.

In the program, Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) matches funding up to $1 million when locals invest in repairs for roads and bridges. Note that counties with populations below 50,000 and cities and towns with populations below 10,000 receive a 75/25 percent match, whereas counties with populations of more than 50,000 and cities and towns with populations greater than 10,000 receive a 50/50 percent match.

Indiana has awarded $300 million in state funds to support local construction and classification projects since the start of the program. Eligible projects are reviewed based on need, traffic volume, local support and regional economic significance. Region 3A offers support by providing the technical assistance that our service area needs. Our services are available for any classification of road.

Projects

Projects that are eligible for funding through Community Crossings include: road resurfacing and preservation, bridge rehabilitation or replacement, road reconstruction with Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) compliance in connection with a road project. Material costs for chip sealing and crack filing operations are also eligible for funding.
